Chicago brewery has open mic every Wednesday. Come down and play or listen.   Good way to meet other guitarist.

Anyone teaching at the moment, I would like to learn how to play the guitar properly. Will pay for the lesson but just for one session a week. Thanks.

Maybe I should pick up the guitar again and risk bloody fingers.  :D  It would be really rewarding to be able to play the guitar properly.  :-)

I used to play acoustic guitar but alas I started to get blisters on the fingers of my left hand and then gave it up. One of my regrets....

Good idea for a group.

We should put together a directory of venues that support acoustic performers. The result could be that we can hear each other and discover other people around town.

Also, places we like to buy our equipment could be a good thing to share. I'm sure all you guys already know Tom Lee's. (The Hong Kong one is awesome, has anybody been to the one in Guangzhou?)

As with Doug, I've discovered the harmonica and it is indeed a fantastic accompaniment to the acoustic guitar. Many musicians choose a drum machine or effects pedals. They can definitely create a good sound, and I suppose it's all a matter of personal choice, but perhaps I don't use it because I don't know how to use them tastefully...

Speaking of harmonicas, the Hohners are obviously great quality, but I recently discovered Suzuki makes some really good ones too.

I'm hoping to be the owner of an acoustic base before the month of May is over!

WOW! what a great story lpb... I can't imagine how you must have felt seeing your friend after so long. My acoustic playing spans 3 instruments now (although I am not a pro on them as such). My beginnings on acoustic guitar resemble yours, as most of my learning was in a number of Christian folk groups. More recently, I have taken to the harmonica, the first which was a birthday gift from my Mom, and since then have bought several more. I find they are an excellent accompaniment to playing the guitar, and even when I play the drums (umm, I guess that is acoustic too). Finally, I have been playing around with an acoustic bass I 'rescued' from a music shop here in Zhuhai.
