The governing of a city for Chinese government officials is almost completely different from that of foreigners. When they try every means to clean up the city and make it look tidy and in order, they don't realize that it is not the city people expect to enjoy living. But for them, they think it is exactly what they need. I'm very sorry for the plain landscape of Mei Li Wan.

Today there is no sign of the Mei Li Wan fishing boats - the beautiful 'painted' water has no beautiful 'painted' boats :( The bulldozers are preparing the beach for the nouveau riche, me thinks. The beach is clean but sterile - no character, no feeling, no atmosphere.

I was down at Haibin the other day - it's all changed - no BBQ area any more and security staff who don't like people walking with bicycles :(

I was over in Huafa at the weekend. Aren't the roadworks crazy?!! It reminds me a little of the chaos around Ningxi Road last year. Now, you can hardly imagine what it was like before. I imagine the area between Gongbei and Huafa will look good - some time soon?!
